Why Buying Boxed Wine is Always a Bad Idea

Wine can be an excellent way to enjoy an evening of relaxation and can be a wonderful pairing to your meals, but the fact of the matter is that it can often be very expensive. If you want to drink wine you are probably going to have to empty your pockets but the fact of the matter is that there are cheaper options out there as well such as boxed wine which you can get for about half the price. Hence, buying boxed wine sounds like a pretty good idea, right? Wrong.

The fact of the matter is that there is a very good reason why wine is as expensive as it is. It all starts with the grape growers that sell a certain amount of grapes to wineries. Wineries then turn those grapes into wine. Doing so costs money which adds to the overall cost of the wine, and wineries need to make a profit as well of course so when they sell their wine to the people that buy them most often, namely importers, they do so at a slight markup.

Importers then sell this wine to distributors. The cost of shipping the wine to a different part of the world is taken into account, along with a markup to ensure that the importers remain profitable as well. Distributors go on to retail markets as well as restaurants for a further markup, and these establishments tack on the final price tag as they finally sell this wine to the person that is going to drink it, aka the consumer. All of these different entities end up making the wine more expensive at the end of the day, and the fact of the matter is that all of the aspects of this process need to be where they are. The grapes need to be grown in a specific place, the good wineries only exist in those places which necessitates importing and distribution.

It is now plain to see that if you are getting a wine for such a cheap price, there is probably something wrong with it. And when you try boxed wine you are going to see that it is pretty disgusting and really not worth it at all at the end of the day because of the fact that you are not going to enjoy your experience.

Does that mean that you have to shell out large amounts of money for good wine? Not at all! We live in the age of the internet, and now you can get connected directly to wineries. Cutting out the middle men can really help you cut costs. Wineries often sell wine for as cheap as ten dollars a bottle, and we’re talking about very high quality wine indeed here! Try to go for small, independent wineries because of the fact that they are going to be far more likely to deal with you directly than the bigger wineries out there.
